The Brief
Polly's enclosed backyard in Spreydon was underused. Fenced on all sides with blue-painted timber, it had the makings of a private outdoor room but nothing on the ground to make it one. She wanted the whole thing paved. Properly.
What We Did
We prepared the full footprint of the courtyard: excavating, levelling, and compacting the base so the finished surface would be stable, well-drained, and perfectly flat.
Then came the brickwork. We laid a two-tone geometric pattern in terracotta and charcoal concrete pavers: a design that runs a wide dark outer border around the full perimeter, then steps inward through a checkerboard band before opening into a herringbone-style terracotta field at the centre. The pattern creates a framed, finished look that makes the enclosed space feel intentional and considered rather than just paved over.
Every brick was hand-set, levelled and jointed. The corners are sharp. The lines are straight. The whole thing was washed down and finished on-site.
The Result
What was a bare patch of ground behind a fence is now a properly finished outdoor courtyard. It's easy to maintain, comfortable underfoot, and looks far better than anything you'd get from a poured concrete slab. Polly has a backyard she can actually use and it looks the part.
